The picture below with the donkey was taken on the farm that my great-granddad moved to sometime between 1900 and 1910.
My grandfather Howard, whom my sister and I called Grandaddy Joe, lived almost his whole life here. Grandaddy Joe bought out his brothers and sisters with money earned from this farm.
My mother was born here in 1928, and lived here until her mother encouraged her to see what else was out there, telling Mom that she can always return, but she should make that decision from a position of knowing what else is available.
Grandmama Joe was a wise woman.
